Sorry it's been a few days...I always say that don't I? The family reunion in Illinois went well but the drive was LONG. It was nice seeing relatives that I hadn't seen in years, but let's be honest...you mostly sit there and talk about superficial crap that no one really cares about: the weather this summer, how cute each other's kids are, how grown up all the cousins have gotten, how "great" work is going, blah, blah, blah. Just once, I would love to hear someone say: "so, you live 5 minutes from your mother but never come to see her...why is that?" or "so, I hear your daughter is dating an african american and is afraid to bring him home to meet you...how are you dealing with that?" or even "so what does everyone think about this whole war thing?" but no...everyone stays on "safe" subjects - nothing too controversial or personal. But...overall, it was a nice visit and the next time we are ALL together again will probably be when someone either gets married or dies so it was nice for my grandma to get to have all of her children and grandchildren together under one roof for the weekend. Will was a very good boy even though the drive was very long and boring. Luckily, we traveled with my parents in their SUV which has a built in DVD player so Will could watch movies. Fortunately Bill was scheduled to defend his dissertation on the monday following the reunion only an hour and a half away from my grandma's house. The defense went well and he passed. He will officially "deposit" the paper in a few weeks and then he will be finally finished with his PhD. He won't walk through until this coming school year but he'll be done this summer! He is getting excited about starting at Mount Union College this fall. He will be teaching more classes than he did at OU but the class sizes will be much smaller. This past weekend I had Missy Meznikowski's wedding. I was a bridesmaid and Bill was a groomsmen. It was a beautiful ceremony! I was glad Bill was my partner because I had to wear heals and we took pictures outside at a park--he kept me from falling several times. That wouldn't have been a pretty site...show up to the reception with a grass-stained bridesmaid dress!! The wedding was at 1:00pm and the reception at 6:00pm. Bill and I had originally thought: "what are we going to do with all that free time inbetween the wedding and reception?" Little did we know there was no need to worry...it took the entire time to take pictures. In fact, the bridal party was late to the reception---the photographer was good but goodness did she take a TON of pictures. I thought poor Missy's smiling face was going to become paralized if we took one more picture. The reception was nice & I was able to see some friends I hadn't seen in a while. Well, I better get going for now. I will try to write more later. posted by Katie Cunion Tuesday, July 22, 2003
